  1. I wonder if there's a medical term for people who beg for help and then refuse it once it's offered.

  2. I can't see it on FB -- did Jenna ever reply to him?

If that guy offering to help and Jenna ignoring him/rejecting his help doesn't open up everyone's eyes, I don't know what will.

  4. Of all her bizarre behaviors, this has to be the most bizarre so far. Putting out a call for help, getting an offer of virtually free help, then turning it down.

Unless it's money she wants, not help.

  7. I've been thinking about the post from the last thread, in which the author wondered what exactly we were doing here. Sometimes it does get mean-girlish on this blog, and I know it makes a lot of us uncomfortable. I too dislike the body shaming and general comments about Jenna's appearance. Sometimes I feel like I should quit reading the Sham, and while I occasionally comment, I delete more comments than I post.

But it's hard to quit The Jenna Show, and I've been trying to figure out why that is. My discomfort in staying around has to do with the fact that Jenna is a real human being with real feelings and fears and dreams, and it doesn't feel right to treat her as though her life were a TV show.

The thing is, Jenna treats her life as though it were a TV show. What she would say is that she curates her life, revealing on her blog and via social media things that pertain to her public persona--farming, homesteading, falconry, etc.--and keeping her private life private, which is perfectly reasonable. But I think she edits with a heavier hand than some might realize. She's doing as much shaping as curating, and on occasion she seems to be making things up.

Often Jenna does a marvelous job shaping her narrative. She frequently posts striking photographs of the farm or her hawk (one thing that never gets discussed here or by Jenna herself is her photography, which I think by and large is quite good, but does make me wonder about whether or not she has a smart phone). For a long time, I was impressed by her talent as a writer, though she's not writing as well now, maybe because she's more focused on composing pithy tweets, I don't know.

But if you read Jenna long enough, the cracks in her storytelling show, and I do think that's why some of us, maybe most of us, are here. We're comparing the cracks in the narrative.

For instance, it might seem like the height of paranoia to jump to negative conclusions about why she didn't respond to the man on FB who offered yesterday to help her with repairs. Why not assume she messaged him instead of responding on her wall?

We don't assume this because we know that if Jenna wanted to accept this man's help, she would be very public about it. "This is how it works, folks! I gave Tim two of my books and he showed me how to fix my pipes. Bartering is this farm's home economics." So the assumption is, she doesn't want to accept his help. Why is that? Truck not really broken? Pipes haven't actually burst?

While documenting Jenna's financial scams is ostensibly the main reason this blog exists, I think the larger role it plays is to provide a space for people who got sucked into the Jenna story, whether via her books or her blog, got hooked, and then realized that Jenna is an unreliable narrator. She seems to have a new crop of fans right now, and sooner or later some of them will make their way over here and will share their "a-ha!" moments. My a-ha moment was the Birchthorn Kickstarter campaign. I'd stopped following Jenna in any regular way a year or so before this, but would check in from time to time. I just happened to check in right when she started soliciting donations for her unwritten novel. The light bulb went off. This is what she does, I thought. She comes up with these ideas that she thinks are going to save her, and she never follows through.

Once you have your moment, it's hard not keep reading and looking for clues. It's like a game. Which is what makes me uncomfortable about it, but also what compels me to keep coming back. The fact that Jenna is also playing the game (she reads this blog, after all, and responds to it via her posts and FB page), makes it all the more interesting.

    1. Very thoughtful post. I often wonder why I don't quit this blog and hers, yet I am compelled to keep checking in, probably for the same reason as you do.

My aha moment was when she started begging donations when her truck was about to be repossessed.

To me, the crack in Jenna's story when the man offered to help with repairs in exchange for her books was her quick response to say she didn't have any. She could have easily gotten them off Amazon, deeply discounted at that.

Last of all, remember than elderly gentleman who offered to help her with her infrastructure? I think a shelter for Merlin? He offered to hire people to do it, but she said she had friends who could do it, took the money and apparently spent it elsewhere. Sounds like the same thing might be happening with the plumbing or truck issues.

    3. Sometimes I feel sorry for Jenna and that's when I wonder what I am doing here and what it says about me. And then she posts some nasty, snotty, judgmental comment, usually against someone who has done nothing to her or, worse, has actually helped/donated to her in the past. And poof! any sense of self doubt evaporates.

Yes, some of the comments here are too much (why does it matter what size jeans she wears??) but those don't undermine all the other comments from people sharing their experiences of being hoodwinked.

And, honestly, I'm kind of done with this exchange. The next time someone posts a self-righteous comment about how people who comment here are no better than a woman who has made a freakin' career out of lying for money, I'm just going to tell them to 'eff off. If you read here, just own it already. Don't naval gaze until you're cross eyed so you can justify your inability to look away from the Jenna train wreck.

  8. Jenna has the books on hand and if she didn't, she could get them and she knows that. Bottom line is, she doesn't want to because her so-called "problems" are all orchestrated to squeeze money out of sympathetic followers. She doesn't want some guy coming to fix her house or her truck because she is more than likely lying about those things. Even if she isn't, him fixing them means she can't whine about it to solicit money in the roundabout way she loves to do to "earn" her living. It is sad to me that these fans of her actually think that she wants their help. She doesn't, she wants their hard-earned money.

  11. I believe she really thinks so little of her donors, clients and "friends" that she does not think they will catch on to the fact that everything she does is s sham. Everything she lives is a lie. There is no "scrappy gal homesteader." There is a pathetic, delusional middle aged woman who sits at her iphone and her laptop all day and night, pretending to live a life that is beyond her in every way. The commenters here who talk about her animal "props" are right. It was never going to be a real farm, not after she became addicted to social media. The best thing JW could do for CAF would be to shut down all her media accounts and get to the business of farming. Unless that's not what she truly wants (we know that's not what she truly wants). In her deluded head, she's just putting in time in Veryork until Hollywood notices its long lost starlet. *guffaws*

In the meantime, she's BS-ing all over Twitter again today about her farm being "run by horsepower." Anyone with a Twitter account want to set Farms of the World straight about this lying scam artist?

Conservatives have much to answer for in their support of Trump, and anyone who knows anything about history should be very mindful of the parallels between Trump and the Fascist movement. ReplyDelete
  34. So...I wouldn't put buying logo templates past her but I may be confused about graphic design - I didn't find things on the website that looked like a template for JW logos, maybe a few things that served as "inspiration". Maybe I was looking in the wrong place. Also, don't get me wrong, her behavior is totally unethical in so many ways, I am not defending her, but these templates are legally sold, licensed, and then she what? Customizes the words and sells them for a much higher price. Isn't that business? Capitalism? Okay she delivers a crappy product at too-high a price but if she actually, delivers it (always in doubt) then she is "working". If there is a demand for embarrassingly childish overpriced logos and she services that demand, is it a bad thing? Again, not defending here but not seeing the scam. What am I missing?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I've been following her since mid 2015 and sometime during that time on FB, I believe, she did say she pays others for the logo and then does her magic- font? and voila logo done. On one of the blogs-coldantlersham or meredith's I broke down approx. profit from her doing things this way. I don't care how she runs her business one way or another. I guess when I read that about how she creates logos I wondered why she had to buy or get other's to create the logo when she is the graphic designer. Her logos scream novice. So my guess is she buys simple inexpensive templates from someone who creates hundreds of simple logos and she adds the same old font and calls it done. Easy peasy and $250.00 less $30.00 for the template. The only "scam" I see is that she lets her readers believe she is sitting at a desk creating, and if I take what she publicly said in the last year or so, she is creating just the font only which she created once and uses over and over again.

      Delete
    2. Yes she has admitted both on her blog and FB that she turns to others for logo templates, fonts etc. Though in this snippet from her blog she states 2 weeks until completion, many many other places states 2 months is realistically what a buyer is looking at for wait time.

"You get a professional logo created by a BFA degreed graphic designer who has worked for corporations such as HGTV, Coldwater Creek and Orvis and that price also includes my purchasing of any font or image rights I may need. Logo designs take 2-4 weeks to complete (sometimes longer, depending on complication of design or if you simply need more versions to get to where you want the design to be)."

I'm always entertained and slightly miffed by her love hate relationship for FB. In early fall she writes--

"Facebook was my Farmer's Market. It was a way to reach people and not only make some money but honestly help others make their own farms and brands better. Facebook let me reach thousands in moments and those efforts saved this farm."
By late fall she wrote that her and FB were taking a break from one another, which lasted just 26 hours.
This year FB has been called a holiday dinner were all the guests are disappointed in you and a hotel lobby lol.

In business honesty, a good product and absolutely exceptional customer service is a good way to gain return business. There is so much to be said about pleasing your customers, having them right raving reviews and knowing that they'll return to you for all their "logo or?" needs.
I don't imagine this concept is anything that Jenna puts much stock in because it takes work, consistent work and a devotion to things other than thy self. Thus why time and again desperation ads, pleas, discounts, fund drives and sales, sales, sales to bring in new first time clients because repeat business isn't a part of her business plan at all.

    4. An entry from 2012 explains the second stove and it's purpose. Beginning in early 2013 plumbing problems began to surface at CAF. Each time they would be completely fixed after she gave a call out or let her readers know that she had no hot water, or ice in the toilet, or bursting pipes and floors a flooding. I'm not sure why she doesn't use this wood stove anymore. She makes it very clear that it's sole purpose is to keep the pipes from freezing.

"In the mud room there is a trusty Vermont Castings Dutch West stove and that was here when I bough the place. It lives within 10 feet of the houses plumbing, all of it. Since the only pipes in the house live here (at the convergence of bathroom, kitchen, and laundry all back-to-back by several walls) it is the real work horse stove. If I lost power, or didn't have any heating oil, it would keep pipes from freezing and the bathroom and kitchen comfortable. "

    2. She's got a lot of unpaid part-time jobs. She claims to be a seasoned homesteader/farmer, but one who doesn't chop her own wood and rarely stacks it as well as one who doesn't have the basic tools or knowledge of how to keep an old truck running. She lives in a home where fuel oil and wood are used to warm the place, but has to shut off the upstairs, and sleep on the floor by the wood stove which keeps the house at a brisk 60 degrees or colder. The fuel oil runs out and is not purchased, and her second stove used primarily for keeping the plumbing from freezing is not used for that purpose? Why? One will never know--either she is lying about pipes freezing or she is jumping the gun. Either way she was claiming frozen pipes long before the temps in her area could lead to such things. All $ goes first toward the mortgage which is two-three months behind at any time of the year. Or so she claims. Once a month is paid all money taken in through donations go to her living expenses and fun fund which are Netflix, donations to Reddit for no ad time, Amazon Prime membership and routine purchases of audio books, hardcovers, vinyl, groovy t-shirts and hair extensions. Other expenses are time at the brewery, bottles of bourbon, movie tickets, high end clothing, bundles of wood from Stewart's, subway sandwiches, eBay purchases and refunds to unhappy customers. Once those necessary things are paid for $ then goes to hay bought bi-weekly and delivered to her. There is no money for healthcare or dental or emergencies or maintenance, or repair or for her truck or homeowner's or property insurance. When these bills are due then the real crisis and wolfs are at my door pleas begin. But by this time she is late again with the mortgage. Thus she created a brand new way to bring in $- prepaid everything. Pay 6 months even a year in advance. That way she has anywhere from 6 months to a year to work things out. And come that year she will be selling more future prepaid items to pay those clients and on and on.

Her unpaid part-time jobs as she has stated are -away from the farm part-time to train and hunt with hawk. Though she is unable to leave the farm for any other reason. She has stated several times she plays WOW more than a part-time job and has listed over 40 hours of books/movies she watches a week, which is a full-time unpaid job of fun. Anyone who supports this lifestyle of hers financially needs professional help.

  41. Jenna's latest blog entry starts her full on Begfest two days before Christmas:

"It’s been a mix of highs and lows at this farm all week. The holidays are tough. I still haven’t managed to get the plumbing fixed and won’t until I make a mortgage payment. As much as I want flushing toilets and drainage I need to cover that first. I am gaining ground a little each day but things like dental bills and emergency visits to the Urgent Care really were a sieve in this month’s income. Not the most uplifting of news but the truth."

How anyone can muster up sympathy for Jenna with her woe is me bullshit after reading her countless entries about wasting time with her hawk, is beyond my comprehension.
You know what Jenna? Get a full time job with a steady paycheck. Problem solved. You want to waste your days "hunting" with a hawk and watching children's movies then have at it. Once you start whining to the public about how hard your life is, you open yourself up to scrutiny.
One positive thought- outright begging means her subtle hints over the past few weeks aren't generating enough donations for Jenna. That is a good thing. Hopefully her readers are finally seeing Jenna for what she really is- a scammer.
Jenna can't afford her lifestyle, as low brow as it is, without other people's money. Hell, she can't even flush her toilet because she'd rather spend her money on useless entertainment rather than get her plumbing fixed. How can she possibly afford to feed two dogs and a bunch of livestock?

    1. Anyone who regularly keeps up with her and has a brain will have to ask why is she begging when that man offered to help her with the plumbing? SHAM!! She wants cash not help. I hope no one gives her money.

    2. Yes! Jenna uses her readers like an ATM. She wants a hand-out rather than a hand-up. People have offered repair advice for her truck and she responded, "I can't do everything."
More like she can't do anything. Now someone is offering plumbing assistance and once again she isn't interested.

Anyone considering donating to Jenna Woginrich this holiday season, please give to a worthwhile charity. There are so many that are legitimate, unlike Jenna Woginrich.

Jenna Woginrich is a spoiled, selfish human being who has decided not to work to support herself. Please don't reward her for her bad behavior.

  43. There is a real disconnect between how much time she says she is working on logos and "design work" and reality. The reality is that, she doesn't even have a professional website for the sale of artwork or graphic design.

How could she possibly be as busy as she says doing this work??? I think she's just watching TV and online shopping, and posts that she is "doing design work" to give the illusion that she does something, ANYTHING, other than just play all day.

    3. Yes! I just made this point in my comment below before seeing your post.

I think she watches the Muppet Christmas special and gets five minutes of design work done. When the shows over she gets more coffee and answers an email and checks FB before firing up Chelsea. Probably several hours go by in this fashion and she gets maybe a half hours work done.

  44. The less Jenna rides the better. She's had what...a handful of lessons?

I've seen the video of her trying to ride her friends grey draft. What she does to that horses mouth is beyond beginner disturbing. That gelding is a saint for tolerating it. I've seen the photos of her randomly using jasper to pull weight in incorrect tack, and the awful photo of a bridle on Jasper not even remotely put on correctly.

Merlin is a senior been there done that imported Kentucky Horse Park exhibition pony. Jenna either creates or drastically embellishes his behavior...or more than likely she's absolutely unfit and too uneducated to ride without a trainer. Its obvious she doesn't know how to properly put on a bridle. What makes anyone think she has a correctly fitting saddle or correct bit. When's the last time his teeth were floated?

The temper tantrums she explains I could almost guarantee you would shock his previous owner.

As far as I'm concerned, the less she rides him the better.

    1. But it doesn't do a horse any good to stand in a barren field day after day. The boredom must be killing him.

      Delete
    2. In this case I respectfully disagree. Rather he be retired than strong armed by an unfit rider in who knows what type of fitting tack.

Its interesting to me how by and large the concern over her animal's welfare is focused on Merlin. He is who I'd worry about the least. A dry wind break with appropriate feed and water and he should be fine.

I worry about the pigs and lambs...but especially the pigs. A horse can withstand much more than a pig can.

      Delete
    3. True, Meredith. Pigs are the #1 welfare concern at CAF. Merlin's biggest threat is probably ice on that side hill pasture. He's also at risk as a senior because Jenna is just clueless about health/vet issues. Think she's going to spring for supplements or even notice arthritis issues should they appear? Fat chance.

But it's the pigs that have always been subjected to the most inadequate housing. It's unthinkable to have pigs left out to brave the elements with nothing more than what she describes as a hay nest for shelter. Yes, there's the infamous pig pagoda but that was allegedly in bad repair and really didn't look particularly useful when new.

There's a reason she's too chicken to post anything more than closeups of her livestock.

  45. As far as "training" a hawk...claiming to train a hawk to hunt is like claiming to teach a horse to graze.

What she's doing is the same as training a dog that's food driven after withholding its breakfast. Of course it's attentive. Its called hunger.

  46. Jenna's scams could be prosecuted under the statute of Theft by Deception.

There are those of us who think that Jenna has more than enough money to pay her bills and that she makes up the "emergencies" to scam cash from people.

Theft by Deception is defined as creating a false impression to get goods or services from someone.
    Sound familiar?

    1. How would we go about prosecuting her? We live locally, so it might be easier. I'd appreciate any information, thanks.

    2. From what I can tell by briefing Googling theft by deception, it appears that this law is targeted toward a perpetrator who buys something with a check or credit card that may be a bad account or stolen, thus "stealing" the services they paid for with the bad card. It is more geared toward punishing a person who is 'purchasing' services fraudulently.

I think what you want is something more along the lines of failure to deliver goods, merchant failure to deliver. Yes, that is illegal and we know JW has done plenty of this.

I would start with the Sheriff's office and go from there. Good luck.

  47. "They put up with many hours of me sitting in front of the computer designing or illustrating. The irony that I left a desk job to farm and can’t farm because of desk work - it isn’t lost on me."

If she's spending as much time doing graphic design as she claims she is, I find it hard to believe she can't make a living. Perhaps the steady stream of talk shows and cartoons is wreaking havoc on productivity?

Zero sympathy for someone besieged by dental bills and plumbing troubles when they have plenty of time every day for rambling around hawking or catching matinees mid-week. She blew $35 on a Pepsi phone AFTER the urgent care visit. Don't believe a thing she says. She could easily pick up part-time work locally AND do her logo business. There may not be time for hawks in this scenario: this is ok. The hawk does not need Jenna but Jenna does need her teeth and plumbing.

"As the pigs snuffled at their feed (and spilled their water for the 20th time that hour) I took a moment to in the view."

One the most rewarding things about farming, in my view, is the endless opportunities for creative problem solving. Pigs are dumping their water repeatedly? Find another way. Work smarter, not harder.

  48. Pigs deserve comfort in winter and horses deserve comfort too. But they both deserve relief from boredom. No horse lives its life willingly standing day on end without moving and pigs don't normally stay in a 4 cubic foot space eating hay. It's animal abuse and almost factory farming. I do feel bad for the pigs and Merlin.

    ReplyDelete
  49. She would have time for Merlin if she wasn't so busy with that hawk. She gets obsessed with something then loses interest quickly. Always on to the next shiny, new toy.

And as far as her not having time to farm - she never farmed. A handful of animals and a kitchen garden is not farming.

Jenna makes irresponsible decisions (barely working, 8K pony, spend, spend, spend etc etc etc) and someone else picks up the slack. She knew damn well what she was doing when she itemized her dental bills and complained on FB for "something to do".

    Kathleen McK: Have it pulled.

I learned this the hard way, too - the very, very hard way. It's cheaper, you don't miss an upper rear molar at all, and it's the only way to really get rid of the infection - and I'm speaking as a person who has had many root canals and crowns, including two root canals and crowns and an apicoectomy on a sucker that ended up having be pulled anyway, which is what I should have done in the first place. Infected teeth are dangerous and need to GO ! .
